Laos is rich in water resources which provide
252 billion cubic meters per year or 55,000 cubic
meters per person per year on average.
Laos has a much larger volume of water per capita compared
to other countries. According to UNESCO 2005 year
statistics, Laos had water resources measuring 55,000
cubic meters per person per year, Vietnam had 10,810,
Thailand had 6,460 and the United States 10,270.
Actual water use in Laos is low, with the amount
of water stored in reservoirs only 2.8 percent of
the total amount of water available. Therefore it
is necessary to store the water in reservoirs, the
stored water can be used for Hydropower and then
for Irrigation and Drinking.
